Water Borehole Drilling

A predetermined siting survey is conducted by a hydrologist or water diviner, this indicates the best location to drill the borehole.

Our drilling team executes drilling of the borehole to the desired depth or until a water strike is reached.

Our operations are executed in accordance to (SANS 10299-2003): Development, Maintenance and Management of Groundwater Resources. Compliance to this and our Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) ensures that all work is conducted without compromising safety requirements and regulations.

Steel casing is installed to prevent borehole collapse and enhance the lifespan of the borehole.

Yield Testing

This process involves pumping and monitoring of water volumes that can be supplied by the borehole. Internal factors such as flowrate and pump running time etc. are taken into consideration. The recovery rate of the aquifer is determined.

This information is required to understand the capacity of the borehole and determine whether the borehole yield is suitable for the intended application or not.

Borehole pump installation

The borehole pump size is based on borehole depth, yield, water table stability and borehole application.

The borehole pump can be powered by the following:

  • Electrical supply
  • Solar power
  • Windmill
  • Hand pump (i.e. mechanically operated) depending on the client’s requirements and budget.

Our after-sales maintenance services include a maintenance program which is aimed at ensuring water system reliability.

This is achieved by regular testing, inspection and cleaning of the water reticulation system. All components (i.e. borehole pump, water tanks, pipes, filters and water quality) are tested to ensure optimal functioning.

This also opens the opportunity for design upgrades and modifications, affording our clients the best preventative maintenance and water quality monitoring strategy. We also offer call-out services where we attend to breakdowns in the event of emergencies.

Environmental Borehole Drilling

This process involves drilling exploration boreholes and test pits for sampling
purposes.

Environmental drilling is a service performed when soil or groundwater samples are required in order to assess an area for contamination, or when groundwater monitoring wells or remediation wells are required for the treatment of groundwater.

Direct air rotary, also known as air percussion drilling, is the method we utilize when drilling boreholes.

This method makes use of compressed air that flows through the inside of a drill rod to a rotating bit at the tip. The air exits the drilling bit at the bottom of the borehole and forces the cuttings back to the surface where they are discharged for sampling or disposal.

Drilling in rock or soil is relatively quick, and high depths can be obtained.

The resulting borehole is accessible for geophysical logging prior to monitoring well installation. The annulus formed between the well casing and borehole wall is readily gravel packed and grouted. g

Rock Drilling

This process involves using air percussion drilling method to drill holes on the ground at various diameters and depths based on application.

This method of drilling is favourable when drilling for Eskom poles and solar panels in electrical power installation projects. It can also be applied when drilling blast holes at mines and quarries..
